Linda Bean's Maine Lobster 4/3/10
We are always excited to get a new restaurant in Saint Thomas, no matter what kind of food it serves. We have been hearing good things about a new place called Linda Bean's Maine Lobster place on the waterfront at the harbor so while it was a "no ship" saturday we headed down to check it out. It has been open now since December and we have a ton of friends who have eaten there and said it was good plus I consider this research and blog material so I had to go (right?)
Linda is the heiress to the LL bean catalog co. and this is her 9th franchise she has sold (the other's are in Maine, Massachusettes and one in Florida too). I heard the owner, Tim, wants to open a place also on St. John and St. Croix if this one does well. Time will tell, but so far people seem to like it.
The menu was simple but we knew just what we were having. The manager, Wes, suggested we have a lobster roll and shrimp roll and split them so we did. The service was fast and the lobster roll didn't disappoint us with the big chunks of claw meat coming out of the roll (1/4 pound of the stuff). I must admit that I did want to just skip the bun all together and eat just the insides out, because it was really good and buttery too. Maybe I should suggest they just sell bowls of the meat, no roll. ha ha ha......I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this way. It was $16.95 for the lobster roll and $9.95 for the shrimp roll. Miss vickie's salt and vinegar chips that came with it, were so good too and a great addition to the meal I thought. I was happy to see that they carried St. John Root beer, brewed locally in St. John, in their cooler. I opted for lemonaid but really wanted a root beer. Oh well, next time I go.
We enjoyed our lobster rolls and had a nice view of the harbor from the courtyard filled with tables. It was good for people watching. It was a sunny and yummy day!

ps. She also sells her Maine Lobster Stew on QVC too!
